Our aim is to be the complete online guide to Greatstone and Lydd-on-Sea, for the benefit of all who live, work and visit this delightful community on the south Kent coast.
Community Warden Paul Croft or Richard Stephens will be redeployed to work in the Greatstone and Lydd-on-Sea areas on one day each week. Community Wardens in Greatstone and Lydd-on-Sea are available to discuss
any community issue, including concerns about drink and drug related incidents ,
anti-social behaviour or any other related incidents that do not require Police
attendance there and then. Coastal Community Group The Greatstone Action Group have changed their name and with effect from 1 October 2006 are known as the Coastal Community Group. The change has been made in order to associate themselves and represent all of the people who support the concept for the creation of a new Parish Council in Greatstone and Lydd-on-Sea, including the 1,023 of the electorate who signed the petition calling for this change. Lydd Airport, operated today by London Ashford Airport Ltd., was constructed in 1954 as the cross channel departure point for car ferry services. There are plans to develop the airport to handle two million passengers annually by 2014. The proposals will affect all those who live in Greatstone and Lydd-on Sea and, not unnaturally, have given rise to some in favour of the expansion and some against. One group who support the expansion plans is the Friends of Lydd Airport Group (FLAG) and you can find out more about them at their website www.f-l-a-g.co.uk. The Lydd Airport Action Group (LAAG) is opposed to the expansion plans and you can find out more about them at their website www.lyddairportaction.co.uk English Nature - New Designation English Nature (now called Natural England) has designated a new enlarged Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) called The Dungeness, Romney Marsh and Rye Bay SSSI. This designation has been created by consolidating eight existing Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) and by extending boundaries in a number of important areas including Lydd Airport. This enlargement demonstrates the national importance of the shingle foreland, sand dune, saltmarsh, open water and grazing marsh habitats in the Dungeness, Romney Marsh and Rye Bay area. Southern Water is installing mains drainage for the first time in New Romney and Greatstone/Lydd-on-Sea. This multi-million pound scheme will, according to Southern Water, bring significant environmental benefits to the area once properties are connected to the new system. At the moment properties are served by private drainage facilities in the form of cesspools or septic tanks, many of which, according to Southern Water, leak potentially causing environmental damage. Help Please This site is new, non profit making, currently under construction, and I need your help. If you live, work or visit Greatstone and Lydd-on-Sea; if you are involved with a club, society or similar organisation or run a business, and would like to have an entry or have any suggestion as to what you would like to see on the Greatstone and Lydd-on-Sea website, then please e-mail me at peter@greatstonelydd-on-sea.org Many thanks |
